Admission Policy of Wuxi No.1 High School
The admission process to Wuxi No.1 High School International Centre demonstrates our commitment to encourage students to develop into responsible, high achieving global citizens. Our process of application is designed to be transparent to all stake holders involved in the student’s decision to join our international programme.
As part of Wuxi No.1 High School, our students are required to undertake the Municipal High School Entrance Exams in order to obtain a place within the school as a whole. At this point, students and parents will be interviewed holistically, to ensure that the students who want to join the international programmes offered are best equipped for the future.
As the students enter our pre-international programme at Grade 10 (IGCSE), their future paths begin to be defined. All pre-international students are taught the same programme at Grade 10, a programme designed to encourage a sense of internationalism and to encourage the students to take their place in both the school and wider community. Both students and parents are asked to attend regular counselling and guidance meetings with the staff, to ensure the students’ progress in a way that is best for them.
To be admitted to the IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11-12) students must meet the following criteria.
l Completion of the IB DP admission form
l Two reference letters from two Grade 10 subject teachers
¡ Teachers will evaluate the students’ performance from different perspectives including: academic achievement, intellectual promise, motivation, leadership, reference to students’ SIP performance and integrity
l Student academic performance at Grade 10 is also taken into consideration
¡ Students must score a C or better in all IGCSE subjects
¡ Students must score a B or better in the related IGCSE subject to be enrolled in the Higher Level course
Once the programme of study has been selected and discussed by the stakeholders, each student will enter a full international programme of study best suited to their individual needs.
